Fast Food for Me Today

Do you ever have to grab food on the road?  Of course you do, and I do too. I generally encourage, no, more like implore my clients to try to take their lunch or to go home for lunch.  Why?  Because there are SO MANY traps that have to be dodged when you eat out.  But, life happens and sometimes we just have dine in restaurants or fast food.  Today was one of those days for me.  I was teaching an American Heart Association CPR instructor class today.  I had to be at work at 7:30 a.m…ugh, but I was up and out, bright and early.  Whenever I have to work in places away from my office it is a habit to BMOL–Bring My Own Lunch.  Today I packed grapes, an apple, a container of yogurt and a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread.  I do tend to get hungry, so just in case I also had an orange and a protein bar in my purse!  However…turns out the yogurt top was punctured, and by the time I reached in my bag for some yummies, everything was a gross, slimy, disgusting mess of food.  Therefore,  my stash went in the trash and I made a quick dash to the local Wendy’s and got a salad!

I got the Baja Salad, which has greens, cheese, guacamole, tortilla strips, a side of chili to put on top along with dressing.  But what is so fabulous, is Wendy’s offers half size salads which offers a more reasonable amount, price and calories for lunch.  According to Wendy’s it is 340 calories.  I wish the sodium was not a 1170 mg but since I did not use much of the dressing or eat all of the chili, my sodium intake is a little lower.    If you too are ever confronted with having to make quick decisions for lunch, just look around, there really are some great options!
